ZA420 [Airport Equipment]
Elevated Approach and Threshold light

Application

High intesity, uni-directional, elevated runway approach, siderow barrette, threshold, threshold wingbar and runway end lights suitable for use in all weather operation installations up to ICAO category III systems.

Features

  • Lightweight yet robust due to its aluminium alloy 'double skinned' construction.
  • No external colour filters required
  • Smooth outer glass surface resists build up of dirt and is easy to clean
  • Pre-focused optics simplify maintenance procedures
  • Lamp replacement effected without requiring any tools
  • Low windage area
  • Choice of 'gimble' mounting methods - M32 stem or 50/60mm O/D coupling for approach pole structures
  • Light head replacement effected without any resighting require

Compliance with Standards

ICA0 - Annex 14, figs 2.1, 2.2, 2.3, 2.4 & 2.9
CAA - CAP 168, figs 6A/1, 6A/2, 6A/3, 6A/4, 6A/8
NATO - STANAG 3316
BSI - BS3224 Part 4, elevated fittings

Specification

Type ZA420:

High intensity, uni-directional, elevated approach light shall comply with ICAO Annex 14 fig 2.1 for use in category I, II and III operations, CAP 168, BS 3224 Part 4 and STANAG 3316.

Type ZA421:

High intensity, uni-directional, elevated approach siderow barrette and runway end light shall comply with ICAO Annex 14 figs 2.2 and 2.9 for use in category I, II and III operations, CAP 168, BS 3224 Part 4 and STANAG 3316.

Type ZA426:

High Intesity, uni-directional, elevated threshold and threshold wingbar light shall comply with ICAO Annex 14 figs 2.3 and 2.4 for use in category I, II and III operations, CAP 168, BS 3224 Part 4 and STANAG 3316.

The complete fitting shall comprise of a light head containing the optical components and a choice of two 'gimble' type mounting arrangements, either M32 stem or 50/60mm O/D coupling for aproach pole structures.

The optical system of the light head shall comprise of a high purity anodised aluminium reflector, protected by an outer aluminium body casting supporting an airfield standard 100W, 150W or 200W Pk30d prefocus tungsten halogen lamp and heat resistant spreader glass, such that no refocusing on installation, maintenance or in service is required. Separate colour filters outside the fitting are not to be used. Lamp replacement shall be easily effected via the rear of the fitting and shall not require any tools. The objective lamp life at maximum intesity shall not be less than 1,200 hours on a constant current series circuit.

The fitting design shall allow its installation either at ground level or on short support poles using an FAA type breakable coupling or alternatively on an approach lighting structure by means of either an M32 stem or 50/60mm O/D pole mounting coupling. To simplify maintenance procedures the light head shall be easily removed from either the M32 stem or pole mounting coupling and replaced without the need for any re-sighting.

The light head shall be constructed such that the weight of the complete assembly, excluding the 'gimble' mounting, shall not exceed 1.8kg.

All elements of the fitting shall be suitably protected against corrosion with stainless steel fastenings being used throughout. A watertight compression gland shall be used for entry of the connecting plug lead.

A handbook shall be provided giving full installation, operation and maintenance instructions together with detailed parts list.
AVD 109 available on request.

Electrical Supply

Suitable for use in 6.6A airfield lighting circuits, normally supplied from 100W or 200W series circuit isolating transformer.

Power consumption is 100W, 150W or 200W depending upon application.

Finish

Powder coat paint finish in golden yellow. All fasteners are stainless steel.
